Biography

Noor Albasheer is a Sr Petroleum Engineer at Saudi Aramco, currently with the Reservoir Description and Simulation Department's Exploration and Unconventional Petrophysical team, supporting logging operations for oil and gas exploration, unconventional, and sustainability wells, including CCS and geothermal projects. She joined Saudi Aramco through the Corporate Scholarship program and rotated early in her career through reservoir management, and reservoir simulation before settling into petrophysics. In 2023, she joined Saudi Aramco's Technologists Development Program (TDP) to specialize in acoustic petrophysics, completing a year and half assignment at the company's Upstream Advanced Research Center applying machine learning to acoustic logging interpretation before returning to Reservoir Description. She holds a B.Sc. in Petroleum Engineering (Magna Cum Laude), with a minor in Mathematics, from the University of Tulsa, and is a Certified Engineer with the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE). At KAUST, she is pursuing her M.Sc. with Professor Thomas Finkbeiner's Rock & Geomechanics (RockGem) research group.

Research Interests

Noor's research focuses on petrophysics, particularly acoustic well logging and near-wellbore acoustic imaging using full-waveform sonic data. Her work also applies machine learning, including large language models, to automate the processing and interpretation of acoustic borehole images. More recently, she has been expanding into laboratory geomechanical measurements for assessing caprock seal integrity in CO₂ storage (CCS), alongside broader interests in formation evaluation for exploration and unconventional reservoirs.
