Biography

Hala Alqatari is a PhD student in Geophysics at KAUST, with over ten years of professional experience as a Senior Geophysicist at Saudi Aramco. She earned her B.Sc. in Geophysical Engineering from the Colorado School of Mines and her M.Sc. in Geophysics from the University of Texas at Austin. At Aramco, she worked on borehole monitoring, microseismic analysis (DAS and geophone), velocity model building, and advanced imaging workflows, often integrating machine learning to improve subsurface interpretation. Her current doctoral research builds on this background, focusing on subsurface monitoring and data-driven approaches to geophysics.

Research Interests

Hala’s research interests center on borehole geophysics and subsurface monitoring, with a focus on developing innovative workflows for event detection, relocation, and interpretation. She aims to improve the accuracy and efficiency of subsurface analyses through advanced statistical and machine learning approaches, enabling more reliable characterization of geological processes. Beyond methodology, Hala is particularly interested in field applications that directly contribute to energy sustainability, including reservoir monitoring, geothermal development, and carbon capture and storage (CCS).
